Changelog

Version 7:

  • You can choose one default-entry which will be opened if you click on Jumplist-Launchers Superbar-icon. An entry will be added to your Jumplists which opens the configuration-window of the Jumplist-Launcher
  • The interface has been revised agaom (special thanks go to Heiko Eckendorf for the concept)
  • The issue where people were unable to create Jumplists is finally fixed

Version 6:

  • Every element can now be executed with command-line arguments (doesn’t make much sense for non-executable files though)
  • Shortcuts added via drag’n'drop will be dissolved to their target. This includes their arguments.
  • If somehow an icon couldn’t be loaded it will now be replaced by a question mark instead of throwing cryptic error messages at you
  • The interface and workflow to add files have been revised
  • People who weren’t able to change the max. number of jumplist-item should now be able to do so

Version 5:

  • groups and entries in the treeview can now be moved via drag’n'drop
  • after deleting items in the treeview icons don’t become mixed up anymore
  • after adding files via filebrowser the correct icon will now be shown in the treeview

Version 4:

  • You can now optionally create a tasklist instead of the normal one. This ones max. number of items isn’t bound to the max. number of recent items, however there is no setting for max. tasklist entries
  • fixed strange behaviour when moving items in the TreeView (e.g. files become groups)
  • multiple items can now be moved at once
  • the icons-folder will be created if it doesn’t exist (fixes the “Datei “…\iconInfo.dat” kann nicht erstellt werden.” bug)

Version 3:

  • You can add single files to the jumplist by dragging the file on the superbar entry of Jumplist-Launcher while holding the shift-key
  • Folder icons can be changed now
  • fixed a bug where icons are mixed up when you delete a folder icon
  • No more “Fehler beim Holen der Daten…” Error, instead it just disables the ability to set the number of entries in the registry if the value couldn’t be read

Version 2:

  • Up to 60 (before only 10) jumplist-items possible
  • You can change the maximum number of jumplist-items inside the program
  • New items are added in the correct groups now
  • Ordner können auch der Liste hinzugefügt werden

Featuresjumplistlauncher1

  • no installation and rubbish in the registry
  • Creates jumplists with up to 10 60 programs or files which can then be directly started(Warning: The setting Max. Jumplist-Items changes the number of possible entries globally for the whole Windows-environment)
  • the jumplist entries can be grouped
  • An entry can be assigned to be opened upon left-clicking the superbar-icon of the Jumplist-Launcher
  • Every entry may contain command-line arguments
  • after creating the jumplist, no program needs to run in the background
  • you can have multiple Jumplist-Launcher-Icons (with different files/programs) on your superbar by copying the folder
  • files can be dragged into the Jumplist-Launcher from Windows-Explorer
  • Icon and name of the entry can be customized
  • Jumplist-items can be added by dragging single files on Jumplist-Launchers taskbar-icon while holding the shift-key

Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 7 RC

Benutzung

  1. Start Jumplist-Launcher.exe
  2. Add Groups by clicking the ‘Add Group’ button and rename them by clicking on their name in the treeview
  3. Add files/programs by either clicking on the ‘…’ button or directly dragging them into the Jumplist-Launcher window
  4. You can reorganize the order of groups and files by selecting them in the treeview and pressing the up or down-button
  5. if needed change the number of max. Jumplist-items
  6. When you are done, click on ‘Create Jumplist’ to save everything and Create the jumplist
  7. Pin the program to the superbar
  8. Close the programm

Known issues

  • Changing the maxmimum number of Jumplist-entries changes the number of recently used files all across Windows 7This can’t be fixed at the moment because both numbers are represented by only one number in the registry

To-Do

  • Multiple taskbar entries with different icons with just one instance of the program
  • Save settings as a XML-file
  • any ideas?

FAQ

Q: The program gives weird error-messages

A: The data is likely to be corrupt. In order to start fresh, delete all content of the icons-folder but

the folder itself and the ‘settings.dat’ which is located in the Jumplist-Launcher-folder

Q: How can I have Jumplist-Launcher pinned on the superbar with my own icon

A: Create a shortcut of the Jumplist-Launcher.exe and pin that to the taskbar

Q: 10 60 files/apps only? …I need more

A: You can copy the whole Jumplist-Launcher folder and paste it somewhere else.

Both Jumplist-Launcher.exe use different datasets and therefore can have different files/programs linked to them

There is only one setting in the registry for both the start menu’s max. items and the jumplists.

I’m having an issue where the jumplists need to be refreshed occasionally after restarting/waking my computer. The lists show as empty until I open them and manually refresh the data. Is there a fix for this?

    1. Tolles Programm

Jumplist Short cut with NO UAC
Use the task scheduler as per http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=730
(create a specially configured shortcut to launch UAC restricted prog.)
My shortcut target for CCleaner C:WindowsSystem32 schtasks /run / TN “Ccleaner”
In Jumplist I pointed to the Windows/System32/schtasks.exe for adding a file
In Jumplist parameters use only /run /TN “name of task”
[space after RUN and space after TN]
Now my CCleaner starts up from the jumplist without the UAC
I have the Everything Search tool configured in this manner(via scheduled task shortcut)

    Hallo Hedgehoog,

      +1 on this one.

Either it’s a runtime error or some administrative problems in Windows, since I can create a jumplist that doesn’t use categories.

Thank for this tool, good idea, great look:)
Can You change right – left clicks to launch list? Tap for list, right button for tuning… (Or an option for this). Please… And maybe a small pack of icons for multiple instances… But first is the most important…

Salute!

Instead of using multiple jumplist-launcher, will it possible to support “multiple columns” in the future?

    • Anonymous

Jumplists only have one column. If you want more columns I’d have to create a tool which runs once you click on it. That goes beyond the concept of the Jumplist Launcher (use only stuff the system already offers). Therefore this won’t be implemented, sorry.

  • Anonymous

Hi, great concept, but I can’t get it to work. If I right click on the jumplist icon on the task bar, I don’t see my jump list. Just option to unpin, etc.

Great tool… however v7 seems to have many GUI bugs where insert pointer for adding next item results in exception (0×0) and if multiple occurrences of tool invoked by mistake causes weird/german error message and failure to start. Also notice that can only add 20 items to jumplist even if 60 specified… with or without categories.

    • Anonymous

This will be changed in the new version which will come out…whenever I find the time to recode the whole tool, sorry.

  • Wagener

Ansich ein tolles Programm! Aber… :)

    Ansonsten, weiter so! :D

    • Anonymous

    • Wagener

Weitere Beispiele: Internet Explorer, Steam… :)

  • Jim

Like Mountainflow below, I can’t see all my programs. I have 33 listed in 4 groups but only 21 show in Jumplist-Launcher. My monitor is a 24″ widescreen Acer and my resolution is 1920 x 1200. I don’t know of my boxes running a greater resolution so I doubt that is the problem. My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.
    Thank you.
    Jim

    • Anonymous

Right-click on the Windows-button (bottom left corner), Select Properties, Go to the tab start-menu, select customize change the value on the bottom. After closing all dialogs and maybe doing that twice your Jumplist should now contain more items.

Changing the value in the Jumplist-Launcher itself, doesn’t seem to always work instantly. I experienced a similar problem as well when I tested all resolutions for a recent blogpost.

  • Steffen Isen

    Word
    Eigene Dateien -> Musik
    Dokumente
    Videos

    • Anonymous

      1. Das geht bereits wenn du links auf das Jumplist-Launcher-Icon klickst und dann die Maus nach oben ziehst. Anders geht es nicht.
      2. Ich verstehe nicht was du meinst.

  • westwind

Awesome application. Two wishes: custom icons for multiple jumplists, and the ability to have an entry run as administrator.

    • Anonymous

#1: not possible, you can work around this however by creating a shortcut of Jumplist-Launcher.exe, assigning a custom icon to it and pinning the shortcut to the superbar
      #2: I’ll consider it

  • Mountainflow

This is a great add-on. However, I do have one issue. It seems that I can only see 26 programs in the launcher. In the jumplist program, I can add more, but only 26 are available through the superbar. If I move a program up into the top 26 programs, then I can see it. I’m running windows 7 x64.

    • Anonymous

This is limited by your screen-resolution.
I’ll soon further investigate this issue and write a post about it.

    • Mountainflow

Thank You for your quick response. If it helps, my screen resolution is 1600×900. Here is a screenshot of what I’m talking about:
      http://yfrog.com/f/6hscreenshotekj/

As you can see, in the program there are 2 more items shown than in the launcher. I would still like to add some more programs and files to the list, but it doesn’t seem possible.

Thank you for a great addition to windows 7!!!

    • Anonymous

    • Mountainflow

Thanks, I’ve already started using 2 separate jumplists, and that works out just fine. Thanks for a great program.

  • pakZ

    Hey hey!
    I totally love the addon.
However, there’s one thing I’d wish for:

Would it be possible to add a feature that would group the programms to their corresponding launchers?
As you can see here: http://i.imgur.com/4rSMo.png
The WMP resides inside the ‘headphone’ launcher – yet it stands alone on the taskbar.
I would welcome it, if it would group like the Firefox windows.

    Regards,

    Jan.

    • Anonymous

I’m sorry. That is not possible.

Strange bug, tried to drop a shortcut to IIS Manager (InetMgr.exe) but the icon won’t show, when I went to manually set it JL can’t see the exe? It can see InetMgr6.exe in same folder, but InetMgr.exe doesn’t appear in the list at all (Explorer can see it fine).

File is not hidden or system, and I have see all files on anyway. Very strange.

  • Sailbaddesinner

Over 50% of the time when I left click on the Jumplist Launcer icon on the task bar it opens the Jumplist program NOT the Jumplist. I then have to “update jumplist” and it will work once maybe twice. It’s to the point it is more of a pain in the A&& than an asset!

    • Anonymous

Jumplists are normally shown via a right-click.
However you can also show them by holding the left mouse-button on them and then pulling your cursor up as if you would pull out the menu.
If you click on it, it will open Jumplist-Launcher itself or the default program you assigned to launch.

Although it doesn’t feel natural its the way Windows 7 forces it to be used. It could be changed but that would mean a service has to run all the time. That on the other hand is something which I don’t want, because the cool thing about Jumplist Launcher is that it mustn’t run to be used.

    • Sailbadthesinner

I meant RIGHT mouse button, NOT THE LEFT

    • Anonymous

OK, then I have no explanation.
When right-clicking it should never open Jumplist-Launcher.
This must be related to Windows itself as the Jumplist-Launcher isn’t running at that time.
Did you change left and right mousebutton? So right-click opens stuff and left-click brings up menus.

  • Ktlittle

Is there anyway to add My Computer to the list?

    • Anonymous

      Yes, there is a way.
Add ‘C:Windowsexplorer.exe’ and then put in the parameter-field:
      ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
      Update Jumplist, and you’re done.

No, linking directly to the .exe is not a solution. The demonstration video *shows* the author dragging *shortcuts* in to the main window, which is all I’m trying to do – not these fancy goofball shortcuts everyone else wants, some of which should be scripted anyway. Is it because I’m using 64-bit Windows or what? My system is very simple.

Well, i must thank You very much for this software.
After Windows 7 initial relase, i’ve just fallen in love with jumplists.
Sadly, with some windows update, my jumlist (those from explorer.exe) stopped working – shortcuts won’t pin anymore.
Nobody could help me, I’ve tried everything, without success.
And then, I’ve found Your small great software, which helped me a lot, and provided additional functions!

    Again, many thanks!

I really like your product! It definitely fills a void for a feature that in my opinion should already be available in Windows 7 (64-bit).

I currently have 25 entries in my jumplist with the maxmimum number of jumplist entries set at 30. But, when I open the jumplist, only the first 22 entries are shown. Setting the maximum higher, seems to have no affect. I have been saving the maximum setting & creating the jumplist each time I make a change. How do I see entries 23+ when I open the jumplist. I am running V7.21

I had the same issue. To fix, I right clicked on the Start Icon, selected properties, selected the Start Menu Tab, selected Customize, and then set the Recent Items in Jump List Value there (in your case set it to 30). Once I did that the first time, changing the value via the jumplist configuration works.

I tried changing the start menu value as you described, but I still do not see all of the entries.

I also changed the value several more times using jumplist launcher without affect. Any other ideas?
