  • The interface has been revised agaom (special thanks go to Heiko Eckendorf for the concept)
  • The issue where people were unable to create Jumplists is finally fixed

Version 6:

  • Every element can now be executed with command-line arguments (doesn’t make much sense for non-executable files though)
  • Shortcuts added via drag’n'drop will be dissolved to their target. This includes their arguments.
  • If somehow an icon couldn’t be loaded it will now be replaced by a question mark instead of throwing cryptic error messages at you

  • fixed strange behaviour when moving items in the TreeView (e.g. files become groups)
  • multiple items can now be moved at once
  • the icons-folder will be created if it doesn’t exist (fixes the “Datei “…\iconInfo.dat” kann nicht erstellt werden.” bug)

Version 3:

  • You can add single files to the jumplist by dragging the file on the superbar entry of Jumplist-Launcher while holding the shift-key
  • Folder icons can be changed now
  • fixed a bug where icons are mixed up when you delete a folder icon
  • No more “Fehler beim Holen der Daten…” Error, instead it just disables the ability to set the number of entries in the registry if the value couldn’t be read

Version 2:

  • Up to 60 (before only 10) jumplist-items possible
  • You can change the maximum number of jumplist-items inside the program
  • New items are added in the correct groups now

  • An entry can be assigned to be opened upon left-clicking the superbar-icon of the Jumplist-Launcher
  • Every entry may contain command-line arguments
  • after creating the jumplist, no program needs to run in the background

jumplistlauncher2

FAQ

Q: The program gives weird error-messages

A: The data is likely to be corrupt. In order to start fresh, delete all content of the icons-folder but

the folder itself and the ‘settings.dat’ which is located in the Jumplist-Launcher-folder

Q: How can I have Jumplist-Launcher pinned on the superbar with my own icon

A: Create a shortcut of the Jumplist-Launcher.exe and pin that to the taskbar

Q: 10 60 files/apps only? …I need more

A: You can copy the whole Jumplist-Launcher folder and paste it somewhere else.

Both Jumplist-Launcher.exe use different datasets and therefore can have different files/programs linked to them

When adding shortcuts to a group in the Jumplist Launcher main window, the shortcut names are replaced with the names of the executables (without the file extension.)

Here’s a few examples (the shortcut I add -> what the name is changed to):
    “Microsoft Excel 2010″ -> “xlicons”
    “Calculator” -> “calc”
    Etc…

It doesn’t make a difference if I drag+drop them in to JL, or if I use the “Add File” option – the result is the same.

    TIA for any help.

First of all neat app ..

Few things I would love fixed/added

      0. Need better support for handling shorcuts .For example I have a shorcut to open command prompt in Privileged (Run as administrator) mode. This is not taken care of in JLL ,and if I drag and drop the shorcut onto JLL all additional parameters disappear. Currently the only way to achieve this is to actually put the lnk as the executable

      1. I get a file not found when running the following with the following argument
      file location : C:\eclipse\eclipse.exe
      PArameters : -vm C:\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll

      2. Shift+Drag and drop doest work properly

      3. Drag and drop doesnt work well all the time . Usually the item dropped ends up at the bottom on the list

    • dstmrh

try linking directly to the .exe (e.g. winword.exe).

  • NewSpeak

-”the ability to change the main icon would be nice”
-and for some reason, when I restart my win 7, the previous entrys are gone. The only way to bring it back, if I open the program and click on the “Update Jumplist”.
I don’t know who else experience this problem, but can you add a command-line argument like “JumplistLauncher.exe -updatejumplist”?
In that case I can update the list (silently) when my windows boot up.

  • Gordon

    Great Application!
Have you been able to complete the To Do List Item of Having “Multiple taskbar entries with different icons with just one instance of the program”?

This would be a significant advantage, with Utilities in one jump list, folders in another. Most of the desktop Items could be grouped in say 4, 5 or 6 Taskbar Buttons!

    Thanks for your good work!

  • Tigris

    Hi Hedgehog!
Right now I’m switching to Win7 from XP, and I used TrueLaunchBar as a replacement for the standard Start menu: the regular taskbar was on the bottom of the screen, a detached toolbar containing the TLB on the top. TLB had menu entries, like graph, office, media, web, dev, and so on, each containing the shortcuts to applications. I was disappointed to hear, that detaching toolbars from the taskbar is not possible in Win7, so TLB will no longer work for me, and its developers are not very willing to solve the problem. I began to look for a similar alternative, when I came across your launcher. I know, this is not a separate toolbar, but a pinnable and customisable “start menu” that has the potential to be a good replacement. My only problem is that my list of applications is quite long, so even with grouping, it would be a mess. So I would need feature in your launcher: to be able to use submenus, not only groups. I mean, it would be a regular menu item, that opens up another list if you hover over it, or if you click on it. I guess Panther wrote about the same idea, but I don’t speak german, sorry.
So is there a way to implement it? Or is it already implemented? (Right now, I haven’t upgraded yet…)
    Thx!

  • don

Save me a lot of time! Thank You!

  • Tardio

Very good work ! This soft is really good.

    Some suggestion :
Can you improve icons quality ? because icons are not as good as in the Start menu for example, there is a loss of quality !

Also, any chance when we click with the mouse left, that open the menu ? like with the right click.

Can you improve the speed launch ? when we click on an app in the list, the Jumpliste.exe is launch, so it’s not as fast as if we launch it from the start menu, but I think you can’t relly improve that.

    Thanks :)

  • Bjorn

    Hi,
Thank you for making this great tool. Something I really been lookin for.
But I got alittle problem. It still just show 10 menus even if I set it to 20 or 30. Any ideas why?

    Thank you,
    Bjorn

    • Bjorn

And suddently out of nowhere it worked. :P

    • Gonzo

It works… but when I increase the number and save/update jumplist, my Start menu reflects the same change. If I want a 30-item jumplist, it makes my Start menu big enough to show 30 items. It’s gigantic. No good!

      Can this be fixed??

  • erik

    an idea:

-> options to change the icons, including the .exe (the flyer/blue book icon)

    • jumplist user

the ability to change the main icon would be nice
i had to use a resource editor to change the main icon (to Internet Explorer; this was the default action). Changing the other icons should be really easy (look at the icon cache) BUT it would be nice if the icons displayed took advantage of alpha blending (icons are shown on a white background [the icon itself] where the background should be clear).

other than that – Excellent program (use it all the time!)

How do I open the Jump-List Launcher? The file I down-loaded endswith .rar which I am not familiar with. Anxious to try it.

  • Hoogo

    What I did wrong:
I copied the program folder to c:\program files\… There the program could only run as administrator, and even if I started it like that, I got no jumplist, the icon only started the jumplist program.

And what I did to correct that:
I just moved the folder to documents, dropped a fresh link to it into my start menu and created the jumplist.

It may sound funny but I tried to add Shutdown, Logoff and Restart shortcuts in Jumplist Launcher. I used the “shutdown.exe -r-t” parameters but it is not working.

Shutdown and logoff is working fine, though.

Can anyone please tell me how to add Restart icon in Jumplist launcher 7.2

    Thanks !

    • Brodiemac

Parameters added to any application .exe will not work. It’s a known bug (please read comments below) that many people including myself are anxiously awaiting a solution for. We’re all hoping to see it resolved in the next release.

There is only update Jumplist button on version 7.21,when I click it,error appears:Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004D501F in Modul ‘JumplistLauncher.exe’.Lesen von Adresse 0C82F4A0.Works fine on version 6.

  • Travicane

Downloaded latest version, created Jumplist categories and entries, (clicked Update List), then pinned list to SuperBar.

When I right-click the pinned icon, I now have a nicely set up list with categories and programs.

Unfortunately clicking on any of the list entries does absolutely nothing.

Just a standard Win7 Home Premium, so I have no idea what the problem is.

Seems like a really neat application if I could get it to do anything once the list is set up and pinned. Any ideas?

    Regards
    Travicane

    Can someone confirm please?

  • Shane

This is a great idea.. but I keep having different problems, the latest one is an error when I try to update the jumplist. The error is “EOleExeption error raised, with message: Unspecified error”. No matter what I do now, I cant create a jumplist. Before this I also noticed that I had to keep opening the configuration window and clicking Update Jumplist to make the jumplist appear every few minutes.
Please fix these bugs because its a really good program!

Where are you running the app from? Make sure your windows account has read/write or full control permissions to that folder.

    • Jeremy

Fantastic application, saves space on my taskbar… but I have the same issue as someone else though:
It only displays a maximum of 14 items in my jumplist, regardless of the settings I have.

      Using Win7 Pro x64.

  • http://www.itema.no Albrikt

    1. How about command line options for generating the jumplist on startup?
    2. Command line option for setting the max #items?
    3. Command line option for specifying the catalog where the settings files should be loaded from?
By having these options I could create an automagically updated work menu for my team ;-)

When I open the Jumplist launcher, there is only an “update jumplist” button, not a “create”. Is this a bug? And if its not, how do I get my jumplist to work?

    Feature Request:
Ability to input “Start In:” parameter as available in regular shortcuts.

    • Mike…

Related to that, I would like to be able to select the shortcut “Run” options (Normal window, Minimized, Maximized) for programs I add to the jumplist. There are a couple of programs I have that do not remember the window state, setting that shortcut option to Maximized will usually do the trick. So it’d be great if Jumplist-Launcher supported those options as well.

This is a great program by the way! Kind regards.

    • Mike…

Okay, I figured it out, simply add a .lnk file (shortcut) to the jumplist customized to your liking, not the actual .exe. Works fine here for the Maximized option.

    • Umar

      Awesome application!
      Thank you very much!
      I’ll second the following request:

      Feature Request:
Ability to input “Start In:” parameter as available in regular shortcuts.

    • Umar

Ok! Got it working through Mike’s email.

      For anyone else interested:

Create a shortcut with custom parameters.
Add a file to Jumplist Launcher
Change the File Location to that shortcut.

      Thanks.

  • Gavin

Also, I’d like to open the jump list by left-clicking instead of right-clicking. This will be a lot more convenient. Thanks.

    • Hey

you can already open the jumplist by left clicking and “dragging” the jumplist out, this is true for any jumplist, not just jumplist launcher

Als zusätzlicher Tipp: Man kann dieses Programm auch ans Startmenü anheften, dann hat man darin ein sich öffnendes Submenü. Ich finde dies sehr praktisch, bei mir heißt das Menü Quickstart.
