The newly introduced jumplists, which appear when you right-click on an icon in the superbar, help improving the workflow a lot, but if you want combine multiple programs in one icon, you’re screwed.

Changelog

Version 7:

  • You can choose one default-entry which will be opened if you click on Jumplist-Launchers Superbar-icon. An entry will be added to your Jumplists which opens the configuration-window of the Jumplist-Launcher
  • The interface has been revised agaom (special thanks go to Heiko Eckendorf for the concept)
  • The issue where people were unable to create Jumplists is finally fixed

Version 6:

  • Every element can now be executed with command-line arguments (doesn’t make much sense for non-executable files though)
  • Shortcuts added via drag’n'drop will be dissolved to their target. This includes their arguments.
  • If somehow an icon couldn’t be loaded it will now be replaced by a question mark instead of throwing cryptic error messages at you
  • The interface and workflow to add files have been revised
  • People who weren’t able to change the max. number of jumplist-item should now be able to do so

Version 5:

  • groups and entries in the treeview can now be moved via drag’n'drop
  • after deleting items in the treeview icons don’t become mixed up anymore
  • after adding files via filebrowser the correct icon will now be shown in the treeview

Version 4:

  • You can now optionally create a tasklist instead of the normal one. This ones max. number of items isn’t bound to the max. number of recent items, however there is no setting for max. tasklist entries
  • fixed strange behaviour when moving items in the TreeView (e.g. files become groups)
  • multiple items can now be moved at once
  • the icons-folder will be created if it doesn’t exist (fixes the “Datei “…\iconInfo.dat” kann nicht erstellt werden.” bug)

Version 3:

  • You can add single files to the jumplist by dragging the file on the superbar entry of Jumplist-Launcher while holding the shift-key
  • Folder icons can be changed now
  • fixed a bug where icons are mixed up when you delete a folder icon
  • No more “Fehler beim Holen der Daten…” Error, instead it just disables the ability to set the number of entries in the registry if the value couldn’t be read

Version 2:

  • Up to 60 (before only 10) jumplist-items possible
  • You can change the maximum number of jumplist-items inside the program
  • New items are added in the correct groups now

Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 7 RC

Benutzung

  1. Start Jumplist-Launcher.exe
  2. Add Groups by clicking the ‘Add Group’ button and rename them by clicking on their name in the treeview
  3. Add files/programs by either clicking on the ‘…’ button or directly dragging them into the Jumplist-Launcher window
  4. You can reorganize the order of groups and files by selecting them in the treeview and pressing the up or down-button
  5. if needed change the number of max. Jumplist-items
  6. When you are done, click on ‘Create Jumplist’ to save everything and Create the jumplist
  7. Pin the program to the superbar
  8. Close the programm

Known issues

  • Changing the maxmimum number of Jumplist-entries changes the number of recently used files all across Windows 7This can’t be fixed at the moment because both numbers are represented by only one number in the registry

  • Multiple taskbar entries with different icons with just one instance of the program

FAQ

Q: The program gives weird error-messages

A: The data is likely to be corrupt. In order to start fresh, delete all content of the icons-folder but

the folder itself and the ‘settings.dat’ which is located in the Jumplist-Launcher-folder

Q: How can I have Jumplist-Launcher pinned on the superbar with my own icon

A: Create a shortcut of the Jumplist-Launcher.exe and pin that to the taskbar

Q: 10 60 files/apps only? …I need more

A: You can copy the whole Jumplist-Launcher folder and paste it somewhere else.

Both Jumplist-Launcher.exe use different datasets and therefore can have different files/programs linked to them

    Nice piece of software, however if you add a parameter which is for example is a file name containing spaces it does not get interpreted correctly. Even if you use quotes around it.

    I’d love to have the default buttons for the app to be switched. This way instead of having to HOLD the left button to open the list, you could just single-left-click it and open it. Then you could use the RIGHT mouse button to open the jumplist app itself. Is this possible?

    Hallo, hab auf der Seite gelesen, dass es zuvor Probleme beim Erstellen der Jumplists gab wegen den Sicherheitseinstellungen. Welche Einstellungen sind das ?

      Es muss unter Start->Eigenschaften->Tab Startmenü->Datenschutz die Option “Zuletzt geöffnete Elemente im Startmenü und in der Taskleiste speichern und anzeigen” gesetzt sein.

    Brilliant solution!

    Two things:

    * Could you please fix the icon transparency problem: just extract the 16×16 icon from the given file instead of doing some resize manually.

    In the mean time, is there a way to update the icons manually?

    * Selecting 14 possible items in the Taskband menu settings actually allows for 15 items, so please do allow one more item than the setting allows (not possible since v7).

      The next version will include the weird icon look problem.
      You can alter them by going into the icons-folder and edit them manually, but be aware that they will be re-created once you create another Jumplist.

    Is it possible to specify a default app or folder to launch if we just left click the app from toolbar? Maybe add some switch to the command to trigger it?

    I would love to be able to both left click to launch an app or right click to pull up the custom jumplist.

      As of version 7 this feature was included.
      Just check the checkbox of the entry you want to be auto-launched.

      Awesome, 1 more thing. I’m trying to combine a custom jump list with this utility and a stack from standalonestacks2. I would like left click to launch the stack and right click to launch the custom jump list, but I’m having trouble getting it to work. I can get the stack to launch on left click, or I can setup a jumplist, but when I setup a default left click app my jumplist doesn’t show any of the apps I chose, just the jumplist app itself and configuration options.

      Update: Creating jumplist works fine, it’s when I set a default app for the left click that things mess up. When I set the default app, that app is launched on left click, but I lose my other items from the jumplist. Also, clearing the checkbox does not restore my jumplist, I have to delete the settings files and start over.

    Great Program, 2 questions:

    1) Is it possible to get the programs that get launched from this program to show up as thumnail previews for it, as oposed to their own new taskbar entries?

    2) The following File and Parameters wont work:
    File Location: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware\VMware Remote Console Plug-in\vmware-vmrc.exe”
    Parameters: -h server.com -u user -p pass -m “[datastore123] Virtual Machine.vmx”
    It throws an error, do the quotes or brackets mess it up?

      i don’t know, but a temporal workaround could be to launch a shortcut, containing the parameters instead.

      JumplistLauncher does not allow you to choose .LNK files from the dialog but i pick some dummy .txt or other file in the target dir and change the filepath manually

      Jumplist Launcher does not throw an error, but the vmware player says:

      Error opening the remote virtual machine server.com\[datastore123]: The requested virtual machine could not be found.

      So it seems that the [space] or possibly the right bracket are being parsed as something else by jumplist launcher.

      Not sure if this will help, but if I click the checkbox next to this list item in Jumplist Launcher (making it the left click default) it works fine, it only breaks when clicked form the “pinned” list.

    Just copy jumpman to a directory containing the jumplistlauncher.exe, add it to a jumplist and you can create new jumplists or copy existing jumplists from there.

    Needs: Autohotkey Scripting language:

    Hi… We are using the luncher in the start meny with “create tasklist”
    If we copy the settings to multiple computers the “create Tasklist” dissepears and you have to open the application to set it again. Do you have a beta comming with the xml settings soon?

      I have enough of the Jumplist Launcher right now.

      Together with XML-settings there should be support for creating multiple jumplists but that’s not that easy.

      Left-click on the superbar-icon then move the mouse up.
      This will also show the Jumplist.

    Very nice app, but one problem:

    I don’t use the Frequent/Recent feature of the Jumplists, so I set this on 0. This also keeps my Start Menu compact. But the more items I add to the Jumplist, the higher I have to increase the number. In the end this adds a lot of height to my Start Menu and makes it extremely long.

    For now, I have to pin all the items so they all show with the “Store and display” features unticked in Start Menu properties, but I lose out on the group names.

    I have just one suggestion that may have been mentioned before, but I think it will make your application pretty much perfect! (For me anyway :) )

    When you left click on the launcher icon on the taskbar, it would be great if you could have a user defined program open. (Maybe this could be achived by adding an executable file to the shortcut’s command line which JumpListLauncher picks up?)

    Good job. Your program is very useful. I have been using this after 0.4 version and its great. Some idea from me.

    1- I want to add recycle bin and can empty it from your jumplist. (its really need because i dont want to see recycle bin on desktop)

    Hi Hedgehog, i like version 6,

    I have some suggestions for future releases:

    - Support for Environmentvariables in Filepath of files, like
    C:\USERS\%USER%\My Jumplists\… ,%PROGRAMFILES% etc… so that all your jumplist entries keep working when you copy the jumplist to another computer/network, or different actions depending on the user that is logged in, batchfiles that will use %date% to do unattended backups in the weekend etc.

    - support for AUTORUN files, when you right click the jumplist, the some entries that are marked autorun [x] will open for instance your agenda in outlook if you have a office jumplist, or load your favorite .VST plugins if you have a soundstudio jumplist

    - As mentioned in the previous post, Add/Copy/Delete new jumplists inside the jumplistlauncher itselve. Jumplists would have to be displayed in the collapsable tree folder structure of the jumplistlauncher. Naturally this means that you settings.dat has to changed, either several .dat files, like: Jumplist1.dat, MyJumplist.dat, Yourjumplist.dat, or store all jumplists in a single setting.ini using the standard [block] conventions for inifiles,

    These would make the settings.ini (or jumplists.ini) easier accesible for import / export to/from/by other programs, it would become easier to write scripts to export the ini settings to ftp/email etc.

    - Alternatively, you could introduce the jump .JMP format a single file that holds all the icons and the menuentries in a single file that could be easily imported/exported between users.

    Well, it sure is easier to beg for even more features than doing the hard work of writing them myselves, but its just that your jumplist launcher has so much potential to really personize windows 7 and you are doing great so far.

      I forgot to mentios, that for autorun perhaps
      the AutorunINFLegacyArrival methode as used by USB sticks can be
      applied so, that menuentry containing a standard Autorun.inf will automatically start when you start the menu as windowsregistry will think your menu is some kind of removable device.

      Oh, and offcoase the abillity to hide / pw protect some menuentries, not everybody has to be exposed to all the frequently visited adultsite entries in my thump…ehr…jumplist

      Thanks for your nice ideas.

      1. There won’t be a way to hide or pw-protect fields.
      In my eyes it is unneeded complexity which will only be used by small handful of people.

      2. So you want something to auto-run when you oben a Jumplist via right-click or what do you mean with auto-run?
      I’ll add the possibility to open something via left-click on the Jumplist. This could make up for it.

      3. I’ll consider adding support for environmental variables

      4. Being able to create multiple Jumplists with only one instance is something I always wanted and it’s very likeley to be included soon.

      5. The Jumplist settings file will be changed to XML-format.

    The only thing to make it all complete, is include the function

    ADD Jumplist next to the Add File/Folde/Group buttons so that all your jumplists can be managed within the launcher itself.

    Allerdings sind bei mir die Icons unscharf (verschwommen) und haben keine Transparenz. Das sogar, wenn ich ein 16×16-only Icon in bester Qualität auswähle. Der JumplistLauncher macht sie trotzdem unscharf.

      Ich verwende eine Windows-interne Methode um an das Icon einer Datei zu kommen.
      Diese verkleinere ich dann manuell wodurch die Unschärfe entsteht.

      Bei Datei die Icons beinhalten, könnte ich diese nach einem 16×16-Icon durchsuchen.

      Ich schreib mir das einfach mal auf die ToDo-Liste, aber habe nicht besonders viel Zeit die ich dem Projekt zukommen lasse.
      Deswegen solltest du nicht allzuschnell Ergebnisse erwarten.

      60 is the natural limit.
      Did you change Max Jumplist-Items within Jumplist-Launcher and press ‘Save’ afterwards?

    Nice program indeed…however when I add a ‘Techsmith Snagit’ shortcut to it with a ‘command line’ option it ignores it and starts the program in full as opposed to starting it in the systray as it’s supposed to do.

    can you shed any light on this please?

    Congratulations for the app, looks great. I’m trying to run Jumplist Launcher but everytime I try to create Jumplist the app show me this error.

    I tried to run the app as root but still fails. I have W7 Ultimate and spanish language.

      I’m still not sure what causes this problem.
      The only known workaround is to log on as Admin, create the Jumplist and then use it under your user-account.

      I’ll try to have this sorted out before the final version of Windows 7 gets released to the public later this month.

      Same issue here. i have 64-bit windows 7 v6.1.7600. Logged in as Admin but still get the error. Can create a tasklist but not a jumplist.

    Nur zwei dinge wäre toll, wurden aber beide schon gesagt. Ich wiederhole die nur nochmal, damit man sieht, dass dies wirklich von mehreren Leuten gewünscht wird ;-)

    1. funktion der linken und rechten Maustaste tauschen
    2. Beliebigen Ordner auf neue Einträge überwachen und diese Automatisch aufnehmen.

      Ich glaub nicht, dass sowas möglich ist, da die Funktionalität von der Windows Superbar bereitgestellt wird:
      Linksklick => Anwendung starten
      Rechtsklick => Jumplist öffnen

      Da kann die Anwendung selbst nicht dran rütteln.

    Nice app, I’m using it in RC 7100.

    What I’d like to see is an additional option to “watch” a folder, and have the contents of the folder automatically appear in the jumplist.

    You could then have a jumplist for the contents of the downloads folder that updates automatically, similar to the downloads stack on the Mac Dock.

    Great App. I would like to see the ability to launch an app with parameters.

    for instance i use jumplist for games. I have added parameters to the shortcut like screen res, user and pass. Jumplist launcher appears to not have an option for parameters

    Verbesserungsideen:
    1. ‘Klassichen’ Quicklaunch-Ordner (ehem. Schnellstartleiste) überwachen und automatisch neue Verknüpfungen aufnehmen
    2. Beliebigen Ordner überwachen und automatisch neue Verknüpfungen aufnehmen (ok, damit ließe sich dann auch 1. erledigen)
    3. Linksklick auf Icon in Superbar sollte selbe Wirkung haben wie Rechtklick (Jumplist anzeigen). Bin mir abern icht sicher, ob das geht. Ich versuche halt, einen anständigen Ersatz für die bisherige Schnellstart-Leiste zu finden und bin daher kein Rechtsklick für eine solche Funktion gewohnt.

    Die Anzahl der max.JumpList Items ist bei mir ausgegraut. So funktionieren nur 10. Wie kann ich das ändern?

      Welche Windows 7-Version hast du?
      Wenn es ausgegraut ist, heißt das, dass es bei dir den Registry-Eintrag nicht gibt, den ich sonst ändere.

      Problem selbst gelöst. Rechte Maustaste auf Start–>Eigenschaften–>Starmenü–>Anzahl erhöhen–>fertgi!!!

    The new version works for me now, except for the grouping, i have to check the tasklist box or else it doesn’t work, just gives an error saying jumplist can’t be created.

    I like the concept of the program, and its basic function, but I would really like to see the ability to redirect its left click and middle click functions to a separate program. Personally, I’m only using it to pack all my browsers into one list so that I can have them at my disposal for testing site compatibility, and the ability to set the default action as launching firefox would be great.

    cool app, thanks..

    but i have met a problem, that i only can create my jumplist by choosing “no category” mode. that means i can’t group my apps up.

    and if i choose category mode, it tells me it can’t create it, and wait for the next update.

    how can i figure out this problem thanks very much.

    i use jumplist-launcher Ver.5 and my win7 is RTM lenovo OEM.

    Very nice app, working well on win7 x64 build 7600.

    The icon glitch seems happen when Group icon in the tree menu takes the icon of one of the items you add.

    Or if you add an item via any method apart from dragging and dropping.

    Even with this small problem, the lightweight and responsiveness of the app more than makes up for it.

    Love the idea, but i cannot get it to work, have tried and tried unsuccessfully to create jumplists for Office and CS4, on the couple of times that i got an actual jumplist none of the apps would launch when clicked.

    Running Windows 7 Build 7600 x86

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Kann ich bestätigen. Die Version 4 funktioniert nicht korrekt mit der Finalen RTM Version!

      Ich kriege die RTM erst in einigen Tagen über meine MSNDAA-Lizenz.
      So lange müsst ihr euch noch gedulden.

      Einige Posts liegen in 2 Sprachen vor, weil ich damit mehr Leute erreiche.
      Daher sind Kommentare in verschiedenen Sprachen nicht so dramatisch.
