I’ve been at MDR Radio Sputnik together with 5 other DJs competing in the Sputnik DJ Battle. The winner of the voting may play for one hour on the mainstage of the festival Sputnik Springbreak next weekend in front of a huge audience.

Shutting down Project-Clix

Letting a loved one go is never easy. This is not only true for the people you love or your favourite pet – but also for projects that are dear to your heart. That used to be the reason for me taking up Project-Clix in 2007 when its founder quit it. However after an extensive redesign coupled with a completely new, improved Windows-tool in December of 2009 I never found the time to maintain the project further. That’s why I’m calling it a day for the project. It’s presence doesn’t do any harm but I’m always sad when I see one of my projects being abandoned.

All calls to project-clix.de, projectclix.de and project-clix.com will be re-directed to this page.

Sorry to all the users who are still using the project. If you wish to get your userdata, drop me a mail.

Feel free to join the better alternative http://whatpulse.org. If you wish so I could ask the Whatpulse-admins to transfer your user-data and clix-stats from Project-Clix.

How to active the Pie-navigation in the latest Paranoid Android ROM

I’m a big fan of the ~~CyanogenMod~~ Android Open-Source Project-based Paranoid Android ROM (thanks for the correction, marc). Since the latest few beta versions of the ROM it contains an innovative ring-menu called “pie” which aims to replace the notification- and menubar.

another tip: swiping to the upper left part of the menu brings up the quick-settings-menu whereas swiping to the upper left part brings up the notification-list

It took me a half an hour to find out how the pie-menu works. That’s why I created this post.

After flashing the latest version of the Paranoid Android ROM to your smartphone you have to do the following things to active Pie:

Open the phones settings, scroll down to “Toolbars” and active “Pie Controls”
(optional) If you feel like it customize the size, location or animation-style of the pie-menu with the option below “Pie Controls”
As mentioned before the Pie-navigation aims to replace notification-,status- and menubar. That’s why it only works in the “Expanded Desktop”-mode where these are not visible. In order to active this mode press the on-off switch of your device briefly. Push “Expanded Desktop” in the opening menu.
You may now use the Pie-navigation by swiping your finger from the bottom of the display up (or in the corresponding direction if you changed the location of the Pie-navigation).

Quick tip: Pioneer’s DJM-2000 – doubles as a fancy 6-port-router

In order to connect more than two CDJs and probably a PC via RekordBox you need either a network router or -switch to spread your music goodness among the devices.

Pioneer’s mixer-flagship, the DJM-2000, is currently the only mixer which comes with six LAN-ports built-in. You can connect up to four CDJs as well as two PCs.

A few weeks ago I somehow messed up the wireless LAN at my place. Since I’ve got a few PCs but no router I came up with the idea to abuse the DJM-2000. Surprisingly it worked like a charm. The circuit layout of the mixer revealed that transfer-rates of up to 100 MBit/s are possible which is pretty good for a makeshift. The port you connect a device to doesn’t matter. The division in PCs and CDJs serves Pioneer’s own network-protocol upon which RedkordBox works.

So if you got yourself a DJM-2000 you don’t only have one of the best DJ-mixers up to today but a capable network switch for up to six devices.

While this tip is not very surprising it’s the idea I want to spread with this article.

I thought posting my new video just before the launch of Pioneer’s new CDJ-2000 nexus was a good idea but they beat me right to it by unleashing the beast a day early. Anyways, most if not all of the tips I show in the video can be used on the CDJ-2000 nexus as well. Most of them are for people who are too lazy reading the manual but some of them show undocumented features so there’s definitely some gold in it.

P.S. Excuse me looking like a (quote from Anne) “beaten dog”. I lack the cameraman (or woman) to cheer me up.
